Court Stops Impeachment Proceedings Against Fayose

A Federal High Court sitting in Abuja has stopped all impeachment proceedings against Ekiti State Governor, Ayo Fayose.

The court also set aside all related actions previously taken by the 19 All Progressives Congress (APC) lawmakers in the state, led by the factional former Speaker of the State House of Assembly, Adewale Omirin.

The latest judgment was given on Thursday, April 23, 2015, by Justice E. Chukwu.

The judge also granted the plaintiffs, factional speaker Dele Olugbemi and five others, permission to serve the originating summons on the defendants through newspaper advertisements.

The plaintiffs prayed the court to declare the seats of the 19 lawmakers vacant also sought an order restraining the police from aiding, abetting or assisting the lawmakers from carrying out any illegal act.

Further hearing in the case has been adjourned till May 13.
