OSARA, Nigeria – Confluence University of Science and Technology has expelled two students over alleged same-sex conduct and suspended four others for one academic session following a campus fight.
The Kogi State-owned university announced the disciplinary measures in a statement issued by its Information, Public Relations and Protocols Unit.
According to the institution, the sanctions were approved at the 31st Regular Meeting of the University Senate after members considered recommendations submitted by the Students’ Disciplinary Committee.
Okay News reports that letters sent to the affected students were signed by the Deputy Registrar for Academics, Eli Usman Gbadafu.
The university said the two expulsions were connected to conduct it described as “gay practice”. The allegation and the disciplinary findings have not been independently verified. Okay News is withholding the students’ names because of the sensitive nature of the case and the risk of unnecessary harm.
Four other students were rusticated for one academic session over separate allegations of fighting on campus.
CUSTECH said the decisions were taken under provisions of its Students’ Handbook, Second Edition, as amended in 2025.
“The University Management reiterated its commitment to maintaining discipline, order and a conducive environment for teaching and learning,” the statement said.
The institution also warned that it would take disciplinary action against students found to have violated its rules and advised members of the university community to familiarise themselves with the handbook.
The statement did not disclose whether the expelled students had a further right of appeal or provide details of the evidence considered by the disciplinary committee.
CUSTECH is located in Osara, along the Okene-Lokoja road in Kogi State. The university was established in 2020 with a focus on science, technology, engineering and related disciplines.
