The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), Seme Area Command, announced that it facilitated the processing of 2,029 export trucks with a Free-on-Board (FOB) value of N16.9 billion between March and May 2025.
The National Export Supervision Scheme (NESS) fees collected during this period amounted to N84.5 million.
The Customs Area Controller of the Seme Command, Dr. Ben Oramalugo, revealed this achievement while presenting seized contraband to journalists on Wednesday. He highlighted that the command generated total revenue of N847 million during the same period, underscoring their commitment to revenue collection and anti-smuggling efforts.
“In line with the Federal Government’s economic diversification agenda through non-oil exports, the command facilitated the export of over 88,036.15 metric tonnes of made-in-Nigeria goods,” Dr. Oramalugo stated.
He emphasized the command’s role in curbing smuggling and ensuring that all revenue due to the government is collected without compromise.
Among notable anti-smuggling successes, Dr. Oramalugo mentioned the interception of foreign coins valued at N48.9 million, prohibited under the Common External Tariff. Additionally, operatives seized six canisters of corrosive mercury suspected to be an improvised explosive device, 553 parcels of cannabis sativa, 1,415 bags of foreign rice, and other contraband items with a total duty-paid value of N669 million.
“Our commitment to inter-agency collaboration ensures the seized cannabis, mercury, and unregistered pharmaceuticals will be handed over for further investigation and possible prosecution,” he added.
Dr. Oramalugo concluded with an appeal to border community residents to discourage smuggling and support law enforcement efforts in safeguarding national security and economic stability.
