Barcelona defender Dani Alves is set to complete his switch to Serie A champions Juventus after flying into Turin on Sunday evening.

Alves confirmed at the start of the month that he would join Juventus after eight trophy-filled seasons at Barcelona, and now the move is set to be rubber-stamped.

The 33-year-old still had one year left on his Barca contract but the club agreed to grant him a free transfer to join Juve.

Juve tweeted a picture and a video of the player after he had landed in Turin.

Juventus raced to their fifth consecutive Serie A title this campaign despite the departures of stars Andrea Pirlo, Arturo Vidal and Carlos Tevez — a trio who’d helped the club to the 2014 Champions League final in Berlin, where they fell to Alves’ Barcelona 3-1.

Massimiliano Allegri’s side boast some of world football’s brightest young talents in the form of France midfielder Paul Pogba, Argentina forward Paulo Dybala and Brazil winger Alex Sandro. Alves said he is eager to help The Old Lady reach the summit of European football.

“I want to win in Europe and in Italy,” Alves said at the start of the month. “I have won a lot of trophies with Barcelona, but the time has come to enjoy Italy and to try to bring Juventus back to the European top.”

Alves, though, reiterated his vow to someday return to Barca.

“But it is more of a see you later than a farewell with Barcelona,” he added. “Sooner or later I will return to Barcelona. I am still a fan of Barca.”
