LONDON, UK – Zamfara State Governor, Dauda Lawal, has been honoured with the Outstanding Governor of the Year award by Triangle Media International Magazine. The recognition was conferred at the organisation’s 10th annual lecture and award ceremony held at the Grand Hall of King’s College London, United Kingdom, on Thursday.
In a statement issued on Friday, Sulaiman Idris, spokesperson to the governor, noted that the award recognizes public and private sector leaders whose leadership has significantly impacted governance and service delivery. Specifically titled the 2026 Face of Africa Leadership Award for Outstanding Governor of the Year, the honour marks a milestone for the state government since Lawal’s inauguration on May 29, 2023.
Okay News reports that the board of Triangle International highlighted that despite inheriting an empty treasury, Governor Dauda Lawal has remained true to the Rescue agenda’s campaign promise to rebuild Zamfara. The spokesperson added that the award reflects the state government’s approach to tackling insecurity through education, including the declaration of a state of emergency in the sector.
According to the administration, strategic interventions included the payment of N3.4 billion in outstanding WAEC and NECO fees and the reconstruction and rehabilitation of schools across the 14 local government areas of the state. The international magazine found these initiatives to be vital toward long-term efforts to improve the state.
The event, themed ‘Harnessing the roles of Nigerians in Diaspora for National Development’, was attended by the Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, and the Group Managing Director of Sahara Group, Kola Adesina, among others.
