Afrobeats global music star David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, has recorded a significant financial gain after successfully predicting the outcome of Nigeria’s opening match at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations tournament.
The Nigerian singer, songwriter, and founder of DMW Records placed a wager on the Group C fixture involving Nigeria’s national football team, the Super Eagles, and Tanzania’s national team, the Taifa Stars, which was played in Fes, a historic city in northern Morocco.
Davido reportedly predicted that both teams would score during the match, a forecast that proved correct as the Super Eagles secured a hard-fought 2-1 victory over Tanzania in an entertaining encounter played on Tuesday.
Okay News reports that the correct prediction earned the music star a payout of $96,564, an amount estimated at approximately ₦150 million based on prevailing exchange rates.
The match initially saw Nigeria controlling possession for extended periods, but the Super Eagles were stunned when Tanzania took the lead against the flow of play. The Nigerian side responded with resilience, equalizing before a late decisive goal changed the course of the game.
The winning strike was delivered by Ademola Lookman, a Nigerian international footballer who plays professionally in Europe, sealing all three points for Nigeria and completing the comeback victory.
The result has placed Nigeria in a favorable position in Group C as the three-time African champions pursue a fourth continental title at the Africa Cup of Nations, Africa’s premier international football competition organized by the Confederation of African Football.
With the opening victory secured, Nigeria is expected to face its next Group C opponents with renewed confidence as the Super Eagles aim to advance into the knockout stages of the tournament.
