Lagos, NIGERIA – Nigerian Afrobeats star David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, has revealed that he is reconsidering his previous ambitions to enter partisan politics, citing the poor track record of entertainers who have made the transition.
Okay News gathered that the singer made the disclosure during a recent livestream on Twitch with streamer Davrel. Davido explained that while he previously harbored strong political aspirations, he is now hesitant to risk the legacy, goodwill, and massive fanbase he has built in the entertainment industry over the years.
“Before, I wanted to go into politics but honestly, now, I see it two ways. All my years of goodwill, my name and my career, all the hard work and the fan base we have built, it is tricky because the way people look at things,” Davido stated during the broadcast.
He pointed out that the shift from superstar to public officeholder hasn’t been largely successful for his peers, prompting his current skepticism. “The superstars that have gone into politics, the transition hasn’t really been successful,” he noted, adding, “I feel like if you are a politician, you are a politician. It is like it is their business.”
