ASABA, Nigeria – The Delta State Police Command has arrested 81 suspects during intelligence-led raids on alleged criminal black spots across Asaba.
The operation was conducted on Friday under the supervision of the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of operations, with tactical teams deployed to several locations in the state capital.
Okay News reports that the suspects comprised 50 men and 31 women. Police said the raids followed intelligence about illicit drug activity and an alleged illegal checkpoint around the Asaba–Onitsha Head Bridge.
Quantities of tramadol and substances suspected to be cannabis were recovered during the operation, while five vehicles were impounded over an alleged illegal taxi park and suspected use in distribution activities.
The suspects and recovered exhibits remained in police custody as investigations continued. The command said those found culpable would be prosecuted in accordance with the law.
Commissioner of Police Yemi Oyeniyi said the raids formed part of efforts to disrupt criminal networks and improve public safety in Asaba and surrounding communities.
The Nigeria Police Force urged residents to provide credible information about suspicious activity and assured the public that reports would be treated confidentially.
Police said further operations would be carried out as officers follow new intelligence and investigate the suspects’ alleged links to drug distribution and other crimes.
