The Defence Headquarters has confirmed that Nigerian troops eliminated 450 terrorists and rescued 180 kidnap victims across various theatres of operation in September.

Director of Defence Media Operations, Major General Markus Kangye, disclosed this in a statement on Saturday, noting that sustained counterinsurgency efforts led to significant operational successes during the month.

Kangye said that 39 terrorists also surrendered to the military, while troops recovered 63 assorted arms, 4,475 rounds of ammunition, and 294 other items, including grenades, improvised explosive device materials, vehicles, motorcycles, and handheld radios.

The operations were conducted under multiple joint task forces, including Operation Hadin Kai in the North East, Operation Whirl Stroke in the North Central, Operation Delta Safe in the Niger Delta, Operation Udo Ka in the South East, Operation Enduring Peace, and Operation Fansan Yamma.

According to Kangye, troops under Operation Delta Safe recovered crude oil worth ₦112.2 million from oil thieves and destroyed 41 illegal refining sites in the region.

He reaffirmed that the Armed Forces remain committed to transparency and the lawful execution of missions under both domestic and international rules of engagement.

Kangye added that the military will continue to prioritise civilian safety and the welfare of personnel as operations intensify nationwide.
