According to a new report, Canadians are among the world leaders in time spent online.

According to a recent study conducted by comScore Canada, an analytics firm that watches for trends and changes in Internet habits, Canadians spend an average of 36.3 hours browsing and visit approximately 80 websites in one month’s time.

The report found that Americans spend 35.2 hours online every month while Britons spend approximately 33 hours online.

That compares with:

  • Americans, who spend 35.2 hours a month online.
  • Italians, who spend 33.5 hours.
  • Britons, who spend 33 hours.

Canadians spend 5.1 more hours watching video online than our American counterparts, and 73 per cent said they had access to online video, compared with 64 per cent of Americans.

The Toronto Sun adds:

Unsurprisingly, the study also determined more and more Canadians were accessing the Internet through mobile devices like smartphones and tablets instead of through primary computer options like desktops, laptops, and netbooks. Mobile subscribers to different publications and applications rose five percent from 2014 to 24 million people.

The largest jump for Canadians was their use of internet video. The number of people using mobile and desktop devices to watch videos jumped 36 percent from 2014, with 43 percent of people admitting they used the Internet to watch movies, television shows, news reports, and music videos.

“Faster connections and more powerful devices with larger screens are facilitating rapid growth of video on mobile, including longer-form content,” comScore says in its report.
