Maradona-3

Diego Maradona will contest to become the new FIFA president.

According to Uruguayan author and journalist, Victor Hugo Morales, who co-hosted a TV programme with Maradona during last year’s World Cup, the Argentine legend has confirmed his intention to him.

“He told me he was going to run for president of FIFA and authorised me to inform,” Morales tweeted.

“‘I am a candidate’ were the words Diego Maradona used to answer me when I consulted him about the nomination for the presidency of FIFA.”

Maradona openly criticized incumbent president, Sepp Blatter, labeling him a dictator and said the Swiss had made FIFA “a playground for the corrupt”.

Blatter announced his resignation days after he was re-elected for a fifth term amid corruption scandals.
