The Federal Government has announced that it is addressing the grievances that prompted the planned nationwide hunger protests, scheduled for August 1-10, 2024. Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, made the announcement on Monday after the Federal Executive Council meeting presided over by President Bola Tinubu.

Idris stated that the government is working to make food more available and affordable, citing the distribution of rice to various centers across the country at a subsidized price of N40,000. He emphasized that this is just the beginning and that further efforts are underway to address the issues raised by protesters.

The minister claimed that the government is investing heavily in the agricultural sector, which will lead to a decrease in food prices. He also stated that President Tinubu believes the government is responding to the concerns of the youth, implying that the protests are no longer necessary.

The announcement comes as the planned protests, tagged “#EndBadGovernance”, gain momentum on social media. However, the government’s claims of progress may not be enough to appease protesters, who are demanding more comprehensive solutions to the country’s economic and political challenges.
