Easter: IGP Orders Nationwide Security Boost, Deploys Officers to Churches

As Christians across Nigeria prepare to celebrate Easter, Inspector-General of Police Kayode Egbetokun has mandated heightened security nationwide to ensure a peaceful holiday, okaynews.com reports.

In a statement released Friday by Force PRO ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, the IGP sent warm Easter wishes and called on Christians to embrace the values of hope, renewal, and sacrifice.

Egbetokun instructed all Commissioners of Police and supervising Assistant Inspectors-General to intensify visibility policing, intelligence gathering, and surveillance. He also ordered the strategic deployment of officers to churches, recreation centers, highways, and public places to prevent any security breaches.

“The IGP hereby directs Commissioners of Police across all State Commands and Formations, and their supervising Assistant Inspectors-General of Police, to enhance visibility policing, extended vigilance, and intelligence gathering to ensure a safe and secure festive celebration for all citizens,” the statement read.

The IGP urged Nigerians to cooperate with law enforcement by providing timely and credible information, remain vigilant, and celebrate in moderation. He also cautioned against reckless driving during the Easter period.
