Edo State, one of Nigeria’s 36 states in the country’s south, has announced a minor reshuffle in its State Executive Council, the body that supports the governor in running the state’s ministries and key government departments.
The reshuffle was approved by Edo State Governor, Senator Monday Okpebholo, according to a letter dated Thursday, 29 January 2026, and signed by the Secretary to the State Government, Umar Ikhilor. The letter was made available to journalists on Friday, 30 January 2026.
Okay News reports that the governor described the changes as part of efforts to strengthen governance, improve public service delivery, and increase efficiency in the administration of state affairs.
Under the new arrangement, Vincent Osas Uwadiae, who previously served as Commissioner for Oil and Gas Resources, has been redeployed to the Ministry of Lands and Housing as commissioner.
Yakubu Oshiorenua, who was the Commissioner for Lands and Housing, has been appointed as Chief of Staff to the governor. The Chief of Staff role typically involves coordinating the governor’s office and supporting the day-to-day management of official activities.
The letter also stated that the outgoing Chief of Staff, Gani Audu, has been nominated to return as Commissioner for Oil and Gas Resources, subject to confirmation by the Edo State House of Assembly, the state’s legislature.
The cabinet changes take effect from Friday, 30 January 2026. The governor added in the letter that he is confident the adjustments will improve coordination, strengthen policy implementation, and support more effective governance across Edo State.
Since taking office, the Okpebholo administration has repeatedly highlighted inclusive governance, security, and infrastructure development as key priorities for Edo State.
