Edo State Authorities Tear Down Shaibu’s Residence Security Post

By Adamu Abubakar Isa

The former deputy governor of Edo State, Philip Shaibu, witnessed the demolition of his security post in Benin’s Government Reservation Area.

The demolition, carried out by Edo State officials and Public Works Volunteers, occurred amid Shaibu’s impeachment by the state House of Assembly.

The removal of the security post, located near a golf course, sparked controversy as it served as a shelter for Shaibu’s security personnel.

While a senior member of the agencies involved cited Shaibu’s loss of privileges as a private citizen, Shaibu’s aide condemned the action, claiming the outpost was built by Shaibu himself.

Eta Uzamere, the state Commissioner for Roads and Bridges, denied involvement of his ministry in the demolition.

Shaibu had approached the court to challenge his impeachment, alleging persecution for exercising his fundamental human rights.
