Dr. Chris Ngige, former governor of Anambra State and immediate past Minister of Labour and Employment, has been arrested by operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

Okay News reports that the development was confirmed late Wednesday in a statement issued by his former media aide, Fred Chukwulobe.

The confirmation came after rumours circulated earlier in the day claiming Ngige had been kidnapped by unidentified gunmen. Chukwulobe dismissed those reports, clarifying that the former minister is currently in EFCC custody.

In his brief statement, he wrote: “Former Governor of Anambra State and immediate past minister of labour and employment, Dr. Chris Ngige, is with the EFCC. More details later.”

The circumstances leading to Ngige’s arrest have not yet been disclosed by the commission, and the EFCC has not released an official statement as of the time of filing this report.

Ngige served as Anambra governor from 2003 to 2006 and later became a key minister in the Muhammadu Buhari administration, overseeing labour and employment matters.
