Operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) have apprehended Kayode Cole for issuing a death threat against the Chairman of the Commission, Ola Olukoyede. Cole was taken into custody in the Lugbe area of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja.

The arrest came following a comment made by Cole under a post by Instablog9ja on February 1, 2024. The post highlighted EFCC’s investigation into money laundering activities by religious groups. Cole, using the Instagram handle “1billionsecretss,” stated that the EFCC chairman would be dead within six months.

During interrogation, Cole confessed to making the threat, claiming he was merely seeking attention. Nevertheless, the EFCC has stated that he will be handed over to the appropriate authorities for further investigation and prosecution.

This incident follows revelations made by Olukoyede during a dialogue on ‘Youth, Religion, and the Fight against Corruption’ where he disclosed the commission’s findings regarding money laundering activities within religious sects in Nigeria.
