The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has intercepted the sum of N32.4 million (Thirty-two Million, Four Hundred Thousand Naira) in Lagos, which was allegedly intended for vote buying in tomorrow’s presidential and national assembly elections.

This was disclosed in a series of tweets by the EFCC via its official Twitter handle on Friday.

According to the EFCC, the recovery was made by operatives of the Lagos Zonal Command of the Commission as part of a massive operation to deter vote trading and other financial malfeasance ahead of the elections.

The anti-graft agency said the suspect involved has been taken into custody for further questioning.

The Commission has implored all personnel deployed for election monitoring duties to show courage and not give room for unscrupulous persons to undermine the integrity of the elections through financial inducement.

The Chairman of the Commission, Abdulrasheed Bawa, reiterated the Commission’s commitment to ensuring that the electoral process is not compromised by financial malpractices.

He encouraged members of the public to report anyone trying to buy or sell votes by making use of the EFCC financial crimes reporting App, Eagle Eye, which is available for download on the Google Play or Apple store.
