Eid-El-Kabir: Sultan Directs Muslims to Search for Dhul-Hijjah Crescent from Thursday

By Adamu Abubakar Isa

The Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Sa’ad Abubakar, has directed Muslims to look out for the crescent of Dhul-Hijjah 1445 AH from Thursday, June 6, equivalent to the 29th day of Dhul-Qidah 1445 AH. The Sultan made the call through a statement issued by Prof. Sambo Janaidu, Chairman of the Advisory Committee on Religious Affairs of the Sultanate Council, Sokoto.

Muslims are requested to report any sighting of the new moon to the nearest District or Village Head, who will then communicate it to the Sultan. Dhul-Hijjah is one of the four sacred months in Islam, during which Muslims perform pilgrimage (Hajj) and celebrate Eid-El-Kabir.

The Sultan prayed for Allah’s continued support for Muslims in discharging their religious duties. The search for the crescent marks the beginning of the Dhul-Hijjah month, a period of great significance in the Islamic calendar.
