The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has called on residents of Abuja to deepen their commitment to peace, compassion, and collective responsibility as Muslims across the world commemorate Eid-el-Maulud, which marks the birth of Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him).
A Call for Togetherness
In his goodwill message on Friday, Wike conveyed warm greetings on behalf of the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA). He described the celebration as a reminder of Prophet Muhammad’s teachings on tolerance, love, and kindness.
He stated, “Eid-el-Maulud is not just a celebration of the birth of Prophet Muhammad, it is an opportunity for us to come together as residents of the FCT to uphold our commitment to values of acceptance, love and kindness that the Prophet preached. It is a time to remember the importance of compassion and the virtues of togetherness that should guide our interactions with one another irrespective of our beliefs.”
Appreciation for Residents and Service Providers
The minister lauded the cooperation of Abuja residents, noting that their commitment to peace and harmony had supported progress in governance. He also praised law enforcement officers, healthcare providers, and essential service workers for keeping the capital functional.
Infrastructure, Security, and Civic Responsibility
Reassuring the public, Wike said the FCTA will continue to prioritize infrastructure development, security, healthcare, and emergency services. He urged residents to contribute by obeying traffic regulations, paying taxes, and fulfilling civic obligations.
He added, “As we celebrate this day, I urge you all to extend a hand of friendship, reach out to your neighbors, regardless of their background or beliefs, and foster a sense of community. Participate in programs that promote social cohesion, economic growth, and environmental sustainability.”
Prayers for the Nation
The minister also encouraged prayers for President Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, acknowledging his support for Abuja’s development. He stressed that the occasion should be a moment for all Nigerians to ask for peace, prosperity, and stability across the country.
okay.ng reports that Eid-el-Maulud is widely celebrated in Nigeria with lectures, prayers, and community service, often serving as a moment for leaders to call for unity in a multi-religious nation.
