Former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, has written to the Chief Justice of Nigeria, Kudirat Motonmori Olatokunbo Kekere-Ekun, requesting an update on a petition he filed against a Federal High Court judge while being held in the custody of the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC).
Okay News reports that El-Rufai made the request in a letter dated March 9, 2026, addressed to the Chief Justice in her capacity as Chairman of the National Judicial Council (NJC).
In the correspondence, the former governor described the letter as a second reminder regarding a petition he initially submitted in February 2025 against Justice R. M. Aikawa of the Federal High Court, Kaduna.
El-Rufai stated that more than a year had passed since the petition was filed and nearly a year since the NJC reportedly assured him in March 2025 that appropriate action was being taken on the matter.
He further noted that a previous reminder he sent in November 2025 had not received any response.
According to him, the complaint was submitted in line with the NJC Judicial Discipline Regulations 2017.
The former governor accused Justice Aikawa of bias, denial of fair hearing, and conduct he described as unbecoming of a judicial officer.
El-Rufai also alleged that the judge continues to preside over cases involving former officials of the Kaduna State Government who previously served under his administration.
He therefore urged the National Judicial Council to expedite the consideration of the petition and provide an update on the status of the matter.
As of the time of filing this report, the National Judicial Council had not publicly responded to the request.
