First Bank of Nigeria Limited has denied allegations of fraud levelled against it in a lawsuit filed by one of its customers, Agbai Eke.

The bank dismissed the claims as “entirely unfounded and false”, attributing the case to unprofessional and unethical dealings between Eke and a former employee of the bank.

In a statement issued on Saturday, First Bank clarified that its internal investigations revealed Eke’s transactions were facilitated outside the bank’s knowledge through a personal relationship with an ex-staff member.

“We can affirm that the allegations of fraud in the Bank as alluded to by ‘Dr. Agbai Eke’ are entirely unfounded and false,” the statement read.

“Our findings on the matter indicate unprofessional and unethical dealings between Agbai Eke and a former FirstBank employee, using a personal relationship to facilitate unauthorised transactions outside the bank’s knowledge or involvement.”

The bank confirmed that the case has been reported to law enforcement agencies, who are currently conducting an ongoing investigation.

According to the statement, the suspects involved have made useful statements to assist the probe.

First Bank emphasized that, as the matter is already before the court, it would refrain from making further public comments, allowing the judicial process to take its course.

“As the matter is currently before the court, we will refrain from further comments to allow the Court to dispassionately determine the issues before it,” the bank stated.

Reaffirming its commitment to transparency, accountability, and the protection of its customers’ interests, First Bank assured the public that it remains guided by the highest standards of integrity and professionalism in all its operations.
