Enugu State’s government-owned commercial airline, Enugu Air, is scheduled to officially launch its flight operations on Monday, July 7, 2025. The inauguration event will be held at Akanu Ibiam International Airport, the main airport serving Enugu State. The launch ceremony is expected to be graced by the presence of the Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, among other prominent dignitaries, according to an official statement released by the airline.

The Commissioner for Transportation in Enugu State, Dr. Obi Ozor, emphasized that Enugu Air is a vital element of Governor Peter Mbah’s broader vision to develop a modern and integrated transportation. This vision aims to position Enugu as a significant aviation hub within Nigeria’s air travel network.

The airline will commence operations with a fleet comprising three Embraer jets from the E170 and E190 series. These aircraft were selected due to their excellent performance metrics, passenger comfort, and suitability for regional route operations.

The initial flight routes will create a strategic triangular network connecting Enugu, Abuja, and Lagos. Plans are already underway to expand the airline’s reach to other important Nigerian cities such as Port Harcourt, Owerri, Benin, Kano, and potentially international destinations beyond Nigeria.

Dr. Ozor stated, “With a strong foundation built on innovation and sustainability, Enugu Air is poised to transform regional air travel, boost state pride, and raise Enugu’s profile nationally and globally.” This underscores the airline’s commitment to not only enhancing connectivity but also contributing to the socio-economic development of the region.

The launch of Enugu Air is anticipated to have a transformative effect on Nigeria’s aviation landscape by increasing travel options and stimulating economic growth in Enugu and its environs.

With its modern fleet and carefully planned routes, Enugu Air is set to revolutionize air travel within Nigeria and establish Enugu as a key player in the country’s aviation sector.

Okay.ng reports that this development marks a significant milestone in the aviation industry of Nigeria, reflecting the growing ambition of state governments to invest in strategic infrastructure projects.
