Vincent Enyeama has told Super Eagles head coach, Gernot Rohr, to only recall him to the team when he is 100% fit to play.

Enyeama retired unceremoniously from international duty in 2015 after a face-off with the then coach of the Super Eagles, Sunday Oliseh.

However, the former Enyimba shot-stopper has been heavily linked with a return to the side following the absence of first choice goalie Carl Ikeme and with the team increasingly finding it difficult to find a capable replacement.

Enyeama has however told Rohr that he can only call him up for the World Cup if he deems him fit enough.

“Vincent is working hard to regain his fitness and form before giving his final answer to Rohr on his likely recall to the Super Eagles. He wants to merit his recall and not rejoin the team based on emergency. He has resumed training after undergoing surgery and may probably return to action with a new club,” an NFF source told Completesports.

“The former Super Eagles skipper has told Rohr to watch his recovery and invite him only if he is fit and good for a return. He insisted that he would not return to the national team if he is not convinced that he is ready for the World Cup and will help the team.”

There are speculations that the Franco-German coach is banking on Enyeama as his experience will be key for the Eagles in Russia.

It was gathered that Rohr will only back down if Ikeme, who is presently undergoing leukemia treatment, is fully recovered.
