Baltasar Engonga, the recently dismissed Director-General of the National Financial Investigation Agency (ANIF) in Equatorial Guinea, has been remanded in Black Beach Prison in Malabo following one of the country’s most explosive scandals.

The former ANIF head, removed from office by President Obiang Nguema Mbasogo under Decree No. 118/2024, dated November 4, 2024, was accused of both corruption and misconduct.

His dismissal cited “irregularities committed in the exercise of his functions, as well as inappropriate family and social conduct for the performance of public duties.”

Engonga’s scandal broke during an investigation into allegations of fraud, which uncovered nearly 400 explicit videos allegedly featuring him with numerous prominent women, including high-profile figures connected to officials.

These recordings, found in Engonga’s home and office, have sparked a national outcry, with many calling for accountability and heightened integrity in public office.

Following his official removal from office on November 6, 2024, Engonga was reportedly chained and transferred to Malabo Central Prison.

According to Afrikmatin, a French online blog, Engonga now faces charges related to corruption and embezzlement.
