Former Chelsea and Brazil midfielder Oscar has been discharged from hospital following a heart-related scare last week.

The 34-year-old reportedly fell unwell while undergoing physical testing at Brazilian club Sao Paulo’s training centre ahead of the new season on Tuesday.

In a statement, Sao Paulo confirmed that Oscar left Einstein Hospital Israelita on Sunday and remained “stable and clinically well” throughout his stay. The club added that hospital investigations revealed he experienced vasovagal syncope, a common type of fainting caused by a sudden drop in blood pressure and heart rate.

Sao Paulo said Oscar will now undergo a medical rest programme over the next few days as a precaution.

Oscar began his career at Sao Paulo before moving abroad, spending eight years in China. He returned to his boyhood club last year on a three-year deal running until 2027.
