A former Managing Director of Dasr Communication and agribusiness executive, Don Pedro Obaseki, was reportedly assaulted by suspected hoodlums in Benin City, Edo State, during a football outing on Sunday.
The incident allegedly occurred near Uwa Primary School, where he had gone to play before being confronted by the attackers.
Okay News reports that Obaseki, who is related to former Edo State Governor Godwin Obaseki, was later seen in a viral video kneeling at the entrance of the Oba of Benin’s Palace, paying allegiance to Oba Ewuare II.
Eyewitnesses said the assailants forcefully escorted him to the palace after describing him to guards as an “enemy of the Oba.”
Sources within the palace said the incident coincided with a festive church service attended by the monarch, prompting palace chiefs to intervene to prevent a breakdown of order. Despite initial resistance from the attackers, the chiefs reportedly took Obaseki into the palace, bringing the tense situation under control.
Details surrounding the motive for the attack and the identities of those involved remain unclear as at the time of filing this report.
