KANO, NIGERIA – A former Deputy Governor of Kano State, Nasiru Gawuna, has officially defected from the All Progressives Congress (APC) to the African Democratic Congress (ADC), in a move that reflects ongoing political realignments ahead of the 2027 general elections, Okay News reports.
Gawuna completed his registration at his ward in Nasarawa Local Government Area, where he received his membership card and was formally welcomed into the party. The development drew the attention of several political figures and supporters, highlighting the growing activity within the ADC in Kano State.
Among those present at the event were prominent stakeholders including Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, alongside other party leaders and supporters, signalling a strengthening coalition within the state’s political space.
His defection follows his resignation from the APC, which he described as a personal and voluntary decision in a letter addressed to his ward chairman. In the letter dated March 29, 2026, Gawuna expressed appreciation to the party for the opportunity to serve and contribute to its growth during his time as a member.
The move comes amid a broader wave of political shifts in Kano State, as key actors begin to reposition themselves and recalibrate strategies ahead of the next electoral cycle.
