Benjamin Mendy, the former left-back of Manchester City who was recently exonerated of all charges of rape, has reached an agreement to join Ligue 1 club Lorient on a two-year deal.

The 28-year-old French football player was declared a free man last Friday after a three-hour jury deliberation at Chester Crown Court.

Mendy had been charged with sexually assaulting two women at his £4 million mansion.

However, he was acquitted of six counts of rape and one count of sexual assault in a court case earlier this year.

Despite being slated for a retrial on one count of attempted rape and one count of attempted rape at lockdown-busting parties, Mendy has now secured his future with Lorient.

In a statement released on Wednesday, Lorient confirmed the signing of Benjamin Mendy for two seasons.

“FC Lorient is pleased to announce today the signing for two seasons of French international left-back Benjamin Mendy (29),” the statement reads.

“After having satisfied the traditional medical examination, Benjamin Mendy, world champion 2018, quadruple winner of the Premier League under the colors of Manchester City, and French champion of Ligue 1 with Monaco in particular, comes to reinforce the Lorient workforce for this new season.

“The native of Longjumeau, who will wear number 5 with the Merlus, will take his first steps at Espace FCL today. Welcome, Benjamin!”
