Old Trafford, Manchester, UNITED KINGDOM — Viewers tuning in to Manchester United’s match against Brentford on Monday night may have had a puzzling moment after noticing a striking change to the famous red jersey. The standard Snapdragon logo, which has adorned the kits since 2024, was noticeably absent. Instead, the players took the pitch wearing shirts featuring the (RED) logo on the front.

The switch is part of a charity partnership designed to raise awareness and funds for global health initiatives. (RED), an organization co-founded by U2 frontman Bono, is dedicated to fighting life-threatening health crises, including AIDS. To date, the organization has raised over $800 million (approx. ₦1.09 trillion) for the Global Fund, impacting the lives of more than 350 million people worldwide.

Okay News gathered that the collaboration aimed at utilizing the massive global reach of the Premier League to drive social impact.

Fans will also have a chance to own a piece of this historic match. Every shirt worn by the Manchester United starting XI and substitutes is being auctioned off via MatchWornShirt, with the bidding window set to close on May 2.

Tijmen Zonderwijk, co-founder of MatchWornShirt, noted that the auction transforms moments on the pitch into meaningful impact off it. The funds generated will be funneled directly into life-saving health programmes in communities that need them most.

On the tactical front, the match went ahead without several key United figures, as Lisandro Martinez and Harry Maguire served suspensions, while Leny Yoro remained sidelined. Despite the temporary kit change and squad adjustments, Michael Carrick’s side maintained their focus on the Champions League race. The (RED) initiative is expected to return to the spotlight in future seasons as part of Manchester United’s ongoing commitment to global health advocacy.
