ASABA, Nigeria – The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) has opened an investigation into a viral video showing an altercation between an Aviation Security officer and a female passenger at Osubi Airport in Delta State.
The airport authority said its Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, Olubunmi Kuku, ordered the investigation after footage of the encounter circulated widely on social media and prompted questions about passenger handling.
Okay News reports that Osubi Airport, also known as Alfred Diete-Spiff Airport, serves travellers in Nigeria’s oil-producing Delta State.
FAAN’s Director of Public Affairs and Consumer Protection, Henry Agbebire, said the inquiry would establish the facts and circumstances surrounding the incident before the authority determines whether further action is required.
“The Managing Director/Chief Executive views the matter with utmost seriousness and has directed an immediate investigation to establish all the facts and circumstances surrounding the incident,” FAAN said.
The authority stated that any officer found to have breached its operational procedures or professional standards would face administrative and disciplinary measures under its regulations.
“The outcome of the investigation will guide any further action that may be considered necessary. Should the investigation establish any breach of FAAN’s operational procedures or professional standards, appropriate administrative and disciplinary measures will be taken in accordance with the Authority’s regulations,” it added.
The video generated public criticism and renewed calls for airport security personnel to treat passengers professionally while enforcing aviation safety and access-control rules.
FAAN said it remained committed to professionalism, safety, security and customer service at airports under its management. It also assured passengers that complaints would be examined and handled with the seriousness required.
The authority oversees aviation security operations intended to protect passengers, staff, aircraft and airport infrastructure at facilities under its control.
“FAAN remains committed to transparency, accountability and continuous improvement in the delivery of safe, secure and passenger-focused airport services,” the authority said.
