The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) has introduced an integrated ISO policy to achieve full certification for all Nigerian airports by December 2025.
The announcement, made through a statement signed by FAAN’s Director of Public Affairs and Consumer Protection, Henry Agbehire, followed the official presentation of the policy on Monday, October 21.
The new policy merges the ISO 9001:2015 Quality Management System (QMS) and ISO 14001:2015 Environmental Management System (EMS) into a single operational framework. This integration aims to standardize airport operations, improve service quality, and promote environmental sustainability across the aviation sector.
According to FAAN, about 70 percent of the certification process has been completed, with external auditors expected in November 2025 to assess compliance and close identified gaps.
FAAN Managing Director, Mrs. Olubunmi Kuku, represented by the Director of Human Resources and Administration, Dr. Loqman Emiola, said the integrated ISO policy provides a unified document for internal audits across all directorates, ensuring consistency and accountability.
Kuku emphasized that the initiative reinforces FAAN’s commitment to quality, safety, and sustainable practices, noting that it will boost operational credibility and enhance Nigeria’s aviation reputation internationally.
ISO certification is a globally recognized benchmark for quality and environmental compliance. It requires organizations to demonstrate adherence to structured management systems through periodic audits and recertifications.
By aligning with these global standards, FAAN seeks to ensure Nigerian airports operate efficiently, safely, and in line with international best practices. The Authority expects full ISO certification across all airports by December 2025 following successful external evaluations.
