Mark Zuckerberg, the Facebook founder, has dispelled comments made by US President Donald Trump that the social networking site has always been against him.

Trump accused Facebook of “collusion” on Twitter, branding it “anti-Trump”.

“Facebook was always anti-Trump.The Networks were always anti-Trump hence, Fake News, @nytimes(apologized) & @WaPo were anti-Trump. Collusion?” Trump tweeted.

Zuckerberg rejected the notion, countering that Facebook is working to ensure “free and fair elections” with an online platform that does not favour any side.

“Trump says Facebook is against him. Liberals say we helped Trump,” Zuckerberg said in his post,” the Facebook founder fired back.

“Both sides are upset about ideas and content they don’t like. That’s what running a platform for all ideas looks like.”

The US president had made the same claim against the New York Times and the Washington Post.

Facebook, Twitter and Google have been asked to testify before the US Senate Intelligence Committee on 1 November about the allegations of Russian interference.

And the Facebook is expected to hand over 3,000 political adverts to congressional investigators probing alleged Russian meddling in the US election.

The site believes the ads were probably purchased by Russian entities during and after the 2016 presidential contest.
