Benin, Edo State, Nigeria – The family of a student involved in the viral bullying incident at Igbinedion Education Centre in Benin City, Edo State, has publicly apologised for the actions captured in the widely circulated video.
Okay News reports that in a statement issued on March 15, the family, represented by Tim Asoro, expressed deep regret over the conduct of their son, who was identified among the students involved in the incident. The family described watching the video as a painful and distressing experience, noting that they felt shock, sadness and embarrassment over what occurred.
The statement conveyed a heartfelt apology to the student who was bullied and his family, stressing that no child deserves such treatment. While acknowledging reports indicating that the affected student was physically unharmed, the family said the development does not lessen the seriousness of the incident or the emotional distress it may have caused.
They also apologised to the management, teachers, parents and students of the school, describing the institution as a respected centre for education and character development. According to the family, the incident has prompted deep reflection and difficult conversations within the household.
The Asoro family further stated that their son has shown remorse and understands the consequences of his actions. They added that steps are already being taken to provide him with guidance and counselling to help him learn from the incident and develop into a more responsible individual.
The family said it respects the disciplinary measures taken by the school authorities and expressed hope that healing will come to everyone affected by the incident.
