Ayodele Fayose, former Governor of Ekiti State on Sunday released what he described as documentary evidence to back his claim that the Federal Government approved a ₦50 billion intervention fund for Oyo State following the January 2024 Ibadan explosion.

Fayose said the funds were meant to support victims of the disaster but were not fully utilised for that purpose.

Okay News understands that Fayose made the disclosure days after Governor Seyi Makinde publicly challenged him to produce proof of the alleged payment. According to Fayose, only about ₦4.5 billion was eventually released to victims, while the balance was allegedly diverted to other uses, including political ambitions.

The former governor accused Makinde of lacking transparency and claimed that the alleged diversion of intervention funds has contributed to internal crises within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), as well as the governor’s frequent criticisms of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the Federal Government.

Fayose further dared Governor Makinde to seek legal redress if his claims were false, insisting that additional documents exist regarding other federal interventions and Oyo State’s internally generated revenue. He maintained that his decision to go public was driven by the need for full disclosure to Nigerians.
