The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has dismissed widespread media reports alleging an attempted assassination on Lieutenant Ahmed Yerima, describing the claims as entirely false and capable of causing unnecessary public panic.

In an statement issued on Sunday, SP Josephine Adeh, spokesperson for the FCT Police Command, said there is no record or report of any attack on the naval officer anywhere within the Abuja metropolis.

The clarification follows a surge of online publications suggesting that Lt. Yerima, who was recently involved in a viral confrontation with Nigeria’s Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, had survived an assassination attempt.

“The Command wishes to categorically state that no such incident has been reported or recorded anywhere within the Federal Capital Territory. The public is advised to disregard this false information and desist from spreading unverified claims capable of causing unnecessary panic,” the statement reads partly.

The FCT Police Command emphasized that maintaining peace and public order requires cooperation from all residents, especially in an era where misinformation spreads rapidly across digital platforms.
