The Federal Executive Council (FEC) has approved a 29-man committee to work on a new national minimum wage of N56,000 being demanded by organised labour.
The Minister of Labour and Employment, Chris Ngige told State House reporters that the decision followed the adoption of a report by the joint committee of government and the organised labour, on the demand for the new minimum wage.
He said the committee comprises six state governors each from the six geopolitical zone; five nominees of the Federal Government; labour unions, eight and the organised employers association, eight.
He added that the government would appoint a chairman and a secretary of the committee.
The minister said the committee would be constituted as soon as all the parties made their nominations.
According to the minister, the labour will make its presentation to the committee for negotiations on the new minimum wage.
Ngige added that whatever agreement reached during the negotiations would be forwarded to the National Assembly for legislation.
