The Federal Government has begun construction on the Jakara/Wuju-Wuju road and sewage project in Kano metropolis. The initiative costs N47 billion and targets erosion control alongside economic enhancement.

Okay News reports that Minister of State for Housing and Urban Development Yusuf Abdullahi Atah announced the commencement. The Federal Ministry assumed execution after a formal request from Kano State Government.

The project covers 6.7 kilometres across four local government areas. These include Gwale, Kano Municipal, Dala, and Fagge.

Dense populations in these zones face recurrent flooding and degradation. Completion will mitigate environmental risks and boost resident livelihoods.

“When completed, it would positively impact the economic lives of the residents,” Atah stated.

“The project cuts across four metropolitan local government areas and its economic impact will be very huge,” he added.

Kano State previously completed 850 metres. It will handle compensation for affected properties and has already covered claims for 2 kilometres.

Federal supervision continues through the Ministry’s Controller of Housing. The minister pledged ongoing inspections for quality delivery.

The scheme originated in 2013 under former Governor Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso. Initial allocation reached N5 billion but progress stalled due to funding issues.

Atah commended the past administration for the foundation. He expressed gratitude to President Bola Tinubu for approving full financing.

“We have to appreciate Tinubu’s love for Kano State. This is another giant project given to Kano State by the Bola Tinubu administration,” Atah noted.

“When completed, it will significantly improve urban infrastructure in Kano, reduce erosion-related damage, and enhance economic activities across the benefiting areas,” he emphasised.

This intervention addresses long-standing urban challenges in Nigeria’s commercial hub. It combines flood prevention with infrastructure renewal.

The development promises sustained environmental protection and economic vitality for Kano’s metropolitan communities.
