ABUJA, Nigeria: The Federal High Court of Nigeria directed its registries across all divisions to operate on weekends and public holidays for the filing of pre-election cases on Thursday, May 28, 2026.
Okay News reports that the Chief Registrar of the court, Yahaya Shafa, signed the official statement authorizing the extended registry hours.
Shafa said, “The Federal High Court of Nigeria formally notifies all legal practitioners that Registries in all Divisions of the Federal High Court would be open between 10:00am and 2:00pm Weekends and Public Holidays for Filing of Pre-Election Matters Only.”
The registries will process these filings during the stated hours in WAT (GMT+1) to align with constitutional and statutory timelines governing pre-election disputes.
Shafa said, “This has become expedient to meet up with the limited time frame for filing Pre-election matters.”
Political parties are conducting primary elections to select candidates for governorship, the National Assembly, and state assembly positions ahead of the 2027 general elections.
