The Honourable Minister of Education, Dr. Maruf Olatunji Alausa CON, has officially clarified that the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) is not currently on strike. Speaking from Abuja, Dr. Alausa emphasized the Federal Government’s ongoing commitment to maintaining industrial harmony within Nigeria’s federal tertiary institutions.

Addressing concerns about the academic calendar, the Minister attributed the sustained stability in Nigerian public universities over the past two years to continuous dialogue, mutual respect, and the government’s proactive engagement with both academic and non-academic staff unions. “It is not by coincidence that Nigerian Public Tertiary Institutions have remained open and stable for the past two years, something that has not happened in several decades,” he remarked.

Dr. Alausa further highlighted that the Federal Government is addressing union demands in phases, ensuring respectful and consistent progress. This approach aligns with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda for Human Capital Development, which prioritizes the welfare and working conditions of educational staff.

“Our children are the heartbeat of the nation, and their uninterrupted education is non-negotiable,” the Minister stated. He reassured the public that the government will continue collaborating closely with all education sector unions to keep institutions operational and academic calendars intact.

In closing, Dr. Alausa urged the public to dismiss any misinformation suggesting that ASUU is on strike, emphasizing that the current academic stability is a shared achievement that must be preserved.

The Ministry’s press office, led by Director Boriowo Folasade, issued the statement to reinforce confidence in the education sector’s progress and to dispel rumors that could disrupt ongoing harmony.
