Asaba, Delta State, Nigeria – The Delta State Government has strongly condemned the reported harassment and assault of women during the Ozoro Festival, describing the incidents as barbaric, unacceptable, and a gross violation of human dignity.

Okay News reports that the State Commissioner for Works (Rural Roads) and Public Information, , expressed deep concern over allegations that some women were harassed and, in certain cases, sexually assaulted under the guise of festival activities.

He stressed that cultural celebrations must never be used as a cover for criminal behavior, insisting that such actions have no place in a civil society.

“The Delta State Government strongly condemns the harassment of ladies and the reported cases of rape during the Ozoro Festival. Such barbaric acts are totally unacceptable,” Aniagwu stated, while calling on the and other security agencies to immediately investigate the incidents and bring those responsible to justice.

He further assured residents that the government remains committed to safeguarding the rights and security of all citizens, particularly women and vulnerable groups. The commissioner also urged community leaders and festival organizers to implement stronger protective measures to prevent future occurrences, reiterating the state’s zero tolerance for gender-based violence and warning that offenders would face the full weight of the law.
