The Federal Government has allocated fertiliser worth over ₦450 million to Jigawa State for sale to farmers at subsidised rates, as part of efforts to boost agricultural productivity and ensure food security under President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.

Governor Umar Namadi announced the initiative during a Citizens’ Engagement Programme held in Miga Local Government Area. He said the allocation includes 20 trucks of fertiliser, which will be distributed to farmers across the state to support food production and agribusiness.

“This initiative is aimed at supporting farmers with essential inputs and equipment to enhance food production and agricultural business across the state,” Namadi said.

He noted that Miga, with its vast arable land and agrarian population, stands to benefit significantly from the programme. The governor also highlighted his administration’s 12-point agenda, which prioritises agriculture and food security.

To complement federal efforts, Namadi revealed the launch of the Jigawa State Farm Service Mechanisation Company Limited. The company will operate service centres equipped with modern tractors, combine harvesters, and other machinery to support mechanised farming.

“We are also seeking qualified and motivated individuals to manage and operate these centres effectively,” he added.

The fertiliser allocation and mechanisation drive are expected to improve yields, reduce manual labour, and enhance the livelihoods of farmers across Jigawa State.
