The Federal Government on Wednesday approved N5.567b for the 3rd Quarter Soil Erosion Control Accelerated Intervention in six states.

The approval was made at the Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting presided over by President Muhammadu Buhari.

Buhari’s media aid Femi Adesina alongside Minister of Agriculture Audu Ogbeh made this known to newsmen after the meeting.

According to Adesina, the six states are: Kano, Bayelsa, Sokoto, Ondo, Osun and Enugu.

On his part, Ogbeh revealed that the Council approved N165m for the production of improved 30,000 tonnes of foundation seeds.

Furthermore, Ogbeh said the maize will be produced by the Institute of Agricultural Research, Ahmadu Bello University in Zaria.

In addition, the Agriculture minister revealed that Nigeria loses $5b yearly to smugglers

However, he said the Council is already putting plans in place to curb the problem.
