Minister of Labour and Employment Chris Ngige is scheduled to meet with the leadership of the Academic Staff Union of Universities in Abuja today (Tuesday).

The aim of the meeting, according to reports, is to settle the ongoing industrial action.

ASUU had on 13 August declared an indefinite strike to protest against the failure of the Federal Government to implement the agreements it had with the union in 2009 and 2013.

Since the strike was declared, there has been series of meetings between both parties.

A statement from the Deputy Director (Press), Ministry of Labour and Employment, Samuel Olowookere, said the union leaders were expected to brief the government delegation on the resolutions reached on the offers made by the government during the last meeting they held on 17 August, 2017.

”Senator Ngige calls on ASUU to show good faith as the Federal Government had already demonstrated commitment to addressing the grievances of the union,” Samuel said.

According to the statement, the delegation would include the ministers of Education and Finance, Chairman, National Income Salaries and Wages Commission, Executive Secretary, National Universities Commission and the President of the Nigeria Labour Congress.
