Nigerians have been forewarned by the Federal Civil Service Commission (FCSC) about forgeries of employment letters in circulation.

Despite significant media campaigns against such fraudulent activity, the Commission claimed that the phony appointment letters being issued to unwary needy job seekers in the society were created by criminals with the express purpose of scamming unwary Nigerians.

Alaba R. Balogun, the commission’s deputy director of press and public relations and spokesman, emphasized in a news release issued on Monday in Abuja that the FCSC is the sole entity with a constitutional mandate for personnel recruitment, promotion, and discipline in the Federal Civil Service.

According to Balogun, the Commission closely collaborates with the Ministries/Extra Ministerial Departments and the Office of The Head of Civil Service of The Federation (OHCSF) in order to carry out its duty.

“Drawing from the above mentioned mandate of being vested with recruitment/appointment into the Federal Civil Service, it is intrinsically just and proper to conclude that the Commission is the only organization that is legally recognized to issue letters of appointment into the service.

“To this end, the Commission wishes to reiterate and issue a strong warning to job searchers, particularly recent graduates, warning them to be aware of professional fraudsters (both on social and traditional media) posing as Commission employees; whose aim is only to extort and make financial gains on their victims.
