The Federal Government has commenced the disbursement of funds under the Tertiary Institution Staff Support Fund (TISSF), an initiative designed to enhance staff welfare, institutional performance, and innovation across Nigeria’s tertiary education sector.

In a statement issued on Thursday in Abuja, the Director of Press and Public Relations at the Federal Ministry of Education, Mrs. Folasade Boriowo, quoted the Minister of Education, Dr. Tunji Alausa, as saying that the programme represents a major stride under President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.

Alausa noted that the initiative has moved from planning to full execution, with over 9,000 tertiary institution staff already receiving payments in its first year. “The President is delivering for our tertiary institutions—for welfare, for productivity, and for the future,” he said.

He explained that the first phase of disbursement covered both academic and non-academic staff in a 30:70 ratio, ensuring inclusiveness across all categories of personnel in federal and state-owned institutions.

Okay News reports that the TISSF is part of the Nigerian Education Sector Renewal Initiative, which was launched in August 2025 after extensive consultations with education stakeholders.

According to the Minister, “This Fund is not merely about disbursement; it is about restoring dignity, rewarding dedication, and rebuilding the foundation of our knowledge economy.”

Alausa also pledged that the Ministry would maintain transparency by implementing quarterly financial reports, institutional monitoring, and repayment mechanisms to ensure sustainability and expansion of the scheme for future beneficiaries.

Under the programme, eligible staff can access up to ₦10 million in zero-interest loans for key welfare and productivity needs such as housing, education, healthcare, transportation, and small business support.
