The Federal Government of Nigeria has officially declared Wednesday, June 28, and Thursday, June 29, 2023, as public holidays to commemorate the forthcoming Eid-El-Kabir celebration.

The announcement was made in a statement issued by Oluwatoyin Akinlade, a Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Interior.

In the statement, Akinlade extended warm felicitations to the Muslim Ummah both within Nigeria and abroad.

She emphasized the significance of the occasion, urging Muslims and all Nigerians to make sacrifices for the growth and development of their communities and the nation as a whole.

“The Federal Government has declared Wednesday, June 28th, and Thursday, June 29th, 2023, as public holidays in commemoration of this year’s Eid-el-Kabir celebration and heartily felicitates with the Muslim Ummah at home and in the diaspora,” the statement read.

Eid-El-Kabir, also known as the Festival of Sacrifice, holds great religious and cultural importance for Muslims worldwide.

It marks the willingness of Prophet Ibrahim (Abraham) to sacrifice his son, an act of obedience and devotion to God. This event is celebrated annually with prayers, feasting, and acts of charity.

Akinlade expressed hope that the prayers and sacrifices offered during this festive season would restore the much-desired peace and unity in Nigeria. Amidst the challenges faced by the nation, the government remains optimistic that the spirit of Eid-El-Kabir will foster harmony and progress.

“We are hopeful that the prayers and sacrifices that come with this great celebration, as well as the message of Eid-El-Kabir, will bring about peace, unity, and progress in Nigeria,” the statement concluded.
