Abuja, NIGERIA — The Federal Government has officially flagged off the construction of the Ecumenical Airport Chapel and Pilgrims Centre at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport.
Okay News understands that the ground-breaking ceremony is a step in the administration’s goal to integrate spiritual reflection into modern national infrastructure.
The Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Sen. George Akume, CON, who led the ceremony, described the project as a “sanctuary of hope” and a “consecrated haven” for travelers and pilgrims.
The facility is designed to serve as a space for spiritual renewal amidst the pressures of modern travel, catering to the emotional and spiritual needs of the Christian faithful and international transit passengers.
According to Sen. Akume, the initiative underscores the role of faith in fostering national unity and shared humanity. He emphasized that the development aligns with broader government efforts to enhance the passenger experience by adopting a holistic approach to aviation infrastructure. “Modern airports must cater not only to physical transit but also to the emotional and spiritual needs of travelers,” the SGF stated during his address.
The project, which had its documentation finalized earlier this week by the Office of the SGF, is expected to become a landmark feature of the Abuja airport. Sen. Akume commended the partners and visionaries behind the project, urging continued collaboration to ensure its timely completion.
