FG Orders Probe of Former Heads of JAMB, NIMASA

By Farouk Mohammed

The federal government on Wednesday ordered the probe of former heads of the Joint Admission and Matriculation Board (JAMB) and the Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA).

The decision, made during the federal executive council meeting, is due to the poor remittances from both agencies during their administrations.

FEC members and President Muhammadu Buhari had their attention brought o the discrepancies in the remittances both agencies made under their currents heads and their past heads by the Minister of Finance, Kemi Adeosun.

According to her, JAMB had in July remitted N5bn to the government’s coffers, a very significant increase from the N3m that was the annual remittance in the past.

She said the discrepancy has also been found in other government agencies and probes into why they occur would be carried out.

The past director-general of NIMASA, Patrick Akpobolokemi and his predecessor, Haruna Jauro, are already standing trial for financial impropriety.
