Minister of Education, Dr. Maruf Alausa, has proposed extending the mandatory NYSC scheme to two years to enhance skill acquisition for corps members. Speaking during a visit by NYSC DG Brig-Gen. Olakunle Nafiu in Abuja, the Minister also suggested deploying more graduate teachers to rural schools, okaynews.com reports.

Dr. Alausa commended NYSC’s efforts in digitizing mobilization and tackling certificate racketeering. He also noted the resolution of the OND part-time/HND exemption issue. The Minister urged NYSC to focus on creating job creators and highlighted ongoing efforts to digitize verification for foreign-trained graduates.

Brig-Gen. Nafiu lauded the Ministry’s progress in education and called for a database of Nigerian students studying abroad to curb fake graduates. He assured that NYSC is ready to align with government policies and reform to meet national needs. The Permanent Secretary of the Ministry affirmed their commitment to stronger collaboration with NYSC to improve education standards.
